Cop Land

They are the same all over the world. Cops. Sans Serif writes-

According to a signed statement issued by Elliott, a recipient of the Payne Award for courage, he was assaulted by Delhi police personnel on the morning of October 6, allegedly for “trying to steal a taxi”, while in fact he was only seeking cover from the rampaging cops who were pounding some other person.

Elliot, who claims he was “tortured” by the police and “inhumanly treated”, has now left for the US.

I wonder why those words are in quotation marks. I, for one, am ready to believe absolutely any allegation against the police anywhere in the world. I simply don’t trust them.

On the subject of torture, as Rejali has noted, “democracy” is no defense against it. In fact democratic countries were the ones which invented methods that allowed authorities to indulge in torture without leaving marks on the body. Doesn’t apply in Elliott’s case though. The marks on his body are evidence of a severe thrashing.
