Compulsory freedom

leave a comment »

Do people understand the meaning of freedom? Is compulsion a part of freedom? The government of Maharashtra apparently thinks so.

The state government will soon frame a code of conduct for schools as per which singing of the national anthem and celebration of Independence and Republic Days will be made compulsory. The code was being framed since certain CBSE and ICSE schools do not ask their students to sing the national anthem.

Education minister Vasant Purke said the government will not spare any school violating the code.

…while the state cabinet meeting was discussing whether to make singing of national song Vande Mataram compulsory in schools.

- Soon, compulsory singing of anthem (Times Of India)

Brilliant!
